Meet the Growing Room Leadership
President of Growing Room Berlin
I am so excited to be the owner and President of Growing Room Child Development Center of Berlin. It has been a longtime dream of mine to be able to offer a top quality child care to families. Growing Room serves children from 6 weeks to 8 years old. Our various programs offer children developmentally appropriate curricular activities that strive to strengthen their cognitive, language, physical, and social-emotional skills while including daily opportunities to play on our safe, solid rubber-surfaced playground. Our unique approach to curriculum is one of the many qualities that distinguishes our preschools from other early childhood education and daycare facilities.
Our in-house kitchen will serve healthy meals and snacks and the children will dine family style in their well-appointed classrooms. Our loving Early Childhood Education qualified teachers make our school a very special place for your children to learn and grow every day! Please take a look around this website and be sure to like us on Facebook, at Growing Room Child Development Center of Berlin.
In addition to being a full time, on-site owner, I am active as a liaison for Growing Room with the Berlin community and greater Worcester County area. I have created partnerships with various organizations such as the Berlin food pantry, Berlin rescue squads, and UMass medical center’s pediatric cancer care unit. In my free time, I love spending time with my family; my wife, Pam, and I have two beautiful and athletic daughters, Fiona and Danielle. You will most likely find me on the weekends cheering my girls on at sporting events!
Fun Fact: I was on a dating game TV show in Australia years ago and I won because of my ‘accent’.
Growing Room of Berlin’s Leadership Team
Senior Director of Growing Room of Berlin
Laura was born and raised in Lexington, Massachusetts and has lived in Sydney, Australia, Austin, TX, and Poughkeepsie, NY. Laura was hired as Growing Room’s Senior Director before we opened our doors and has been in that role ever since. She has been working with children for over 25 years and has been on the management side of operations for the last 8 years. She has a BA from Clark University and an MA from UMass-Boston as well as a Director II certification through the Department of Early Education and Care.
“Being a part of this wonderful school and being able to bring the Growing Room experience to so many children and families is so exciting! When I am not at Growing Room, I love spending time with my family. My husband and I have two sons and a princess beagle that are our world! I love cooking vegetarian meals, reading, crossword puzzles, and crafts.”
Fun Fact: I got the chance to meet Margaret Rey, wife of H. A. Rey, and author of the Curious George books. I still have and cherish the first Curious George doll that I received as a gift in 1975.
Assistant Director of Growing Room of Berlin
Jessica was born in Newton and raised in nearby Hudson. She lived in Berlin for a few years before moving to Clinton, where she now resides. She has been with Growing Room of Berlin since the summer of 2015 and brings years of experience in her management role as our Assistant Director here. She is Director II certified through the Department of EEC and has been working with children since 2002. She started in the field as an Infant/Toddler teacher and worked her way up to an administrator.
She worked at smaller centers and was a Director at a larger center for 7 years before starting at here at Growing Room of Berlin.
“When I was growing up, my mother ran a small home daycare. I decided when I was little, I wanted to take care of children, too. Seeing the children happy to come to school and excited to start their day makes it all worth it. When I had my very first class, I was just as excited every day to come and see those children that were excited to come see me. They make you feel like a celebrity.
“I am the proud mom to a baby girl, Josie, who attends Growing Room and a teenage boy, Jason. In my free time, I enjoy reading, shopping, playing with my dog, Diesel, and spending time with my family and friends. I am very excited to be a part of the Growing Room family!”
Fun Fact: I love animals just as much as I love children. If I didn’t become an educator, I would have chosen to be a Veterinarian.
Front End Manager of Growing Room of Berlin
Carissa was born and raised in nearby Clinton and is a certified Infant, Toddler, and Preschool educator through the Department of EEC. She has been working in a child development center since 2007, educating children from infants through preschool age. In addition to working in the field of Early Childhood, she also worked in a Behavioral School for five years.
She has been with Growing Room of Berlin since we opened in January of 2014, starting out in our infant program until she was promoted to Front End Manager in 2015.
“I am so excited to be a part of The Growing Room Child Development Center as the Front End Manager. I love having the opportunity to bring my son, Chase, who is in enrolled in the school-age program, when he isn’t in public school. My younger son Trevor is enrolled full time, as well, in our toddler program. It is so special for me as a parent to know my children are in a loving, nurturing and educational setting where they will continue to grow and flourish each and every day.
“My favorite thing about working with children is to watch them grow and develop from infants to independent toddlers, all the way up to blossoming preschoolers. It gives me such joy to watch a child “light up” when they achieve a new developmental milestone or a challenge they have been working on.”
Fun Fact: At times, I can be a bit of a pool shark.
