Preschool

Laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning.

At Growing Room, our Growing Up On Our Block curriculum is thoughtfully designed for two-, three-, and four-year-olds. Just like with our infants and toddlers, we emphasize active, hands-on learning—but at this stage, we also nurture early academic skills, social confidence, and creative expression.

Our preschool classrooms are child-centered environments where curiosity is encouraged and learning is joyful. Every day, children explore new concepts, practice essential skills, and discover their own abilities in a supportive and engaging atmosphere.

Building

lifelong skills.

Through our preschool program, children are introduced to:

  • A weekly focus on a letter, number, word, color, theme, concept, and skill

  • Early reading skills—including upper and lowercase recognition, phonics, sight words, word walls, and basic sentence structure

  • Beginning Spanish for early language enrichment

  • Emergent writing skills—scribbling, drawing, and first attempts at writing

  • Fine motor development—beginner use of scissors and other tools

  • Print awareness—learning how to hold a book, where to begin reading, left-to-right progression, and understanding authors, illustrators, and sentence structure

Tracking Growth Through Portfolios

Each week, teachers select and save examples of your child’s work—labeling, dating, and adding them to their personal portfolio. These portfolios are used to monitor progress, guide instruction, and are shared with families during parent/teacher conferences twice a year. At year’s end, you’ll receive this portfolio as a keepsake of your child’s preschool journey.
